About a half an hour's drive south of Karlsruhe, in the Black Forest and situated in a flat area that is surrounded by altitudes of hills, is to be found Bad Herrenalb. A few times a year along with my walking buddy, we visit this small thermal spring town for its walking paths and fine eating spots once every season. On this particular visit to Bad Herrenalb, its to walk along the Quellenerlebnispfad (spring adventure path) that has more than 60 small springs along this Albtal valley.  In our view, it is one of the most pleasing walks of the area-but then comes the old mysterious myth of the devil's game as to whether he actually built the rock formation that resembles a castle.  To enhance to the local myth; along this walk path is a wooden sculpture with 'listen' engraved into it.

A little boy, wearing a top hat and tails, is holding a silver tray with canapés ”a family all elegantly dressed in white; the mother is wearing a white flower in her hair and she is dancing to the sound of an orchestra— champagne is taken out of a silver cooler and uncorked. Have we accidentally stumbled across a film set? No, this is the annual Schloss in Flammen, which literally translates as " a palace in flames."

a bike without pedals

As I open my living-room window, I hear a bellow coming from a loud speaker and cheering from the park.  Later I will stroll over to this family day of the Draisinnen Rennen racing; celebration of the pushing, spinning and two-wheel variety of the early time bicycle. This event is taking place in the music quarter of our neighbourhood with streets named after composers: Richard-Wagner, Bach and Schubert.
