Sights and Sounds

About a half an hour's drive south of Karlsruhe, in the Black Forest and situated in a flat area that is surrounded by altitudes of hills, is to be found Bad Herrenalb. A few times a year along with my walking buddy, we visit this small thermal spring town for its walking paths and fine eating spots once every season. On this particular visit to Bad Herrenalb, its to walk along the Quellenerlebnispfad (spring adventure path) that has more than 60 small springs along this Albtal valley. In our view, it is one of the most pleasing walks of the area-but then comes the old mysterious myth of the devil's game as to whether he actually built the rock formation that resembles a castle. To enhance to the local myth; along this walk path is a wooden sculpture with 'listen' engraved into it.
From the train station, the round trip is approximately 10 km of walking, and this brings us to our favourite pit stop to the Klosterscheuer. A restaurant that is part of the former Cistercian monastery from the 12th century, and one of the periods best preserved Romanesque building in southern Germany. The framework on the upper floor of the building still remains 80% of the original 1437 building, whilst the rest was deprived from a fire.
The restaurant's blackboard special reads: 'Blackberry pancake with fresh blackberries from the Loffenau forest with vanilla ice cream.' We don't hesitate when ordering... two please! and to our pleasant surprise, the pancakes arrive to our table the equivalent of a medium sized frying pan.
Here I have included my version of the restaurant's pancake.
