cheese & apple rounds (taler)

applecheese-3

These small German pumpernickels are ideal for a party hand-around, as they will keep your guests truely satisfied through the richness of the bread...well maybe for a little while until the next round of nibbles comes along!

Serves 24 guests

  • 60 g old Gouda cheese
  • 2 tablespoons, lemon juice
  • 4 tablespoons, soft butter
  • 2 tablespoons, seeded German mustard
  • salt and pepper
  • 24 pumpernickel rounds
  • 3 large red apples
  • Fresh Cress (a punnet)

1 Half the apple length ways and remove the core. Roughly grate half the apples. With the other half, finely slice cross ways to cut the apple into triangular pieces. Sprinkle with lemon juice to prevent from turning brown.

2 Mix the grated apple, soften butter, mustard, salt and pepper together in a bowl. Spread the mixture over the rounds of bread.

3 Sprinkle the grated chesse on top and add a little bit  of the cress. Add two pieces of the Apple on top, then a few sprigs of cress for garnish.

Have a wonderful party!
