a glam gugelhupf

Happy New Year!

Gugelhupf

A Gugelhupf is a southern German term for a marble cake. Gugel is translated as "hood" and hupfen as "spring," as the cake rises slowly in its form whilst being baked. There are many variations of the Gugelhupf and today I have glammed it up for New Years Eve, and believe me... it doesn't taste as sugary as it looks!

These liitle guys are easy to make for the holiday period. No baking involved, just pop them in the snow (if you are lucky to have the white stuff!) or leave in a cool spot to set.

Germans don't have a traditional dish like they do in England and Australia with the roast turkey, as German people usually cook what they fancy on the evening. Our evening four course menu was compiled of an ox tail soup, turkey and mushroom soufflé, roast beef and sauteé potatoes, followed by a crepe and mango ice-cream by the efforts of Ralph and Gaby's tireless labour.
